Yang Chin-Yi ( Chinese  楊 璟 翊 , born May 15, 1981 ) is a Taiwanese weightlifter . He finished 4th at the 2008 Olympic Games in bantamweight and was vice- world champion in bantamweight duel in 2002 .

Career

Yang Chin-Yi started lifting weights as a teenager in Taiwan . At a height of 1.55 meters, he had excellent physical conditions for a bantam weight (weight limit 56 kg body weight). He therefore started in this weight class throughout his career.

Already at the age of 16 he started at the Junior World Championships in Cape Town in 1997 and finished there in flyweight with 222.5 kg (90-132.5) in a duel, which he did when he first participated in an international championship Won medal. He started in the same year at the Senior World Championships in Chiangmai / Thailand and increased there to 240 kg (105-135), which reached 9th place.

At the Junior World Championships in Sofia in 1998 he managed 110 kg in the bantamweight division and thus took 3rd place in this individual discipline. When he pushed, however, he made three failed attempts, so that he remained unplaced in the two-way competition with no result. At the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998 he managed bantam weight 250 kg (110-140) and came in 5th place.

1999 Yang Chin-Yi increased at the World Championships in Athens in bantamweight to 262.5 kg (115-147.5). But this performance was only enough for 9th place. The winner there was Halil Mutlu from Turkey with 302.5 kg, who like the runner-up Adrian Ioan Jigău from Romania , 282.5 kg, was later exposed as a doper. At the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Prague he was not in good shape and achieved in bantamweight in a duel only 250 kg (110-140), with which he took 4th place. He was in far better shape at this year's Asian Championship in Osaka . There he achieved a new personal best with 277.5 kg (122.5–155) and thus came behind his Taiwanese compatriot Wang Shin-Yuan , 285 kg (125–160) and Zhang Xiangxiang from China , 282.5 kg (127 , 5–155) to 3rd place. In 2000 he took part in the Olympic Games for the first time in Sydney . He reached there 270 kg (120-150) and took 8th place in the overall ranking of the duel.

In 2002, Yang Chin-Yi won medals in a duel at the international championships. First he finished at the Asian Games in Busan with 275 kg (125-150) behind Wu Meijin from China, 292.5 kg (130-162.5) and Wang Shin-Yuan, 282.5 kg (127.5-155) 3rd place and a few months later at the World Championships in Warsaw with 277.5 kg (125–152.5) behind Wu Meijin, 287.5 kg (122.5–160) even vice world champion .

In the following years it did not start quite as often. In 2004 he took part in the Olympic Games in Athens again, but had three failed attempts with 120 kg in the snatch and was thus unplaced. In 2005 he was at the Asian Championships in Dubai with 271 kg (118-153) third and came in the 2005 World Championships in Doha with 275 kg (120-155) in 6th place.

In 2006 he was banned until May 2008 for a doping violation . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing he was back at the start and took an excellent 4th place with his personal best of 285 kg (128–157) in bantamweight, which was only 7 kg behind the victory of Long Qingquan from China who achieved 292 kg (132-160).

In 2009 he did not get the performance of 2008 and finished 7th at the World Championships in Goyang / South Korea with 260 kg (115-145).
