Chu Mu-yen ( Chinese  朱 木 炎 , Pinyin Zhū ​​Mùyán , born March 14, 1982 ) is a former Taiwanese Taekwondoin . In flyweight he became world champion in 2003 and Olympic champion in 2004.

Chu celebrated his first international success at the 1998 Junior World Championships in Istanbul , where he reached the finals in the 48 kilogram class and won silver. He made his breakthrough in the adult sector in 2001. In the class up to 54 kilograms, he reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Jeju-si and won the bronze medal, the following year he reached the final at the Asian Games in Busan and won silver. Since 2003, Chu has started in the Olympic weight class up to 58 kilograms. At the world championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen he was able to win all seven fights and celebrate the first and only world title of his career. His greatest sporting success followed in 2004. Chu qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens , reached the final there with three victories and became Olympic champion after a success against Óscar Salazar .

In the following years, Chu was able to achieve further international successes. In 2006 he won bronze at the Asian Championships in Bangkok and the Asian Games in Doha , and in 2008 he was Asian champion for the first time in Henan . He took part in his second Olympic Games in Beijing . There he lost the quarter-finals against Yulis Mercedes , but fought his way through the hope round into the small final and won his second Olympic medal with bronze after a success against Chutchawal Khawlaor .

Chu did not take part in any international competitions after the 2008 Games. He studied occupational therapy at the University of Pittsburgh .
