The Republic of China first took part in the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles with an athlete in 1932. He fought for medals or at least a good placement in two running disciplines.

The Chinese National Olympic Committee , recognized as NOK in 1922 (recognized as NOK according to another source only in 1931), was founded in 1921 as the National Amateur Athletic Federation and was invited to participate in the 1932 world competitions. The chairman of the Chinese NOK, C. Wang (also Wang Zhenting), appointed to the IOC as the second Asian member after the Japanese Kanō Jigorō , was personally present in Los Angeles. A total of six people were able to see the nations marching in for the opening ceremony, including the flag bearer .

Liu Changchun

Liu Changchun , also spelled Cheng-Chun Liu (some Asian countries name the surname first) and referred to as "China's only son", competed in the 100 m and 200 m races . 32 runners took part in the 100 m competition, Liu did not make it into the semifinals with a time of 11.5  seconds , he was fourth in his starter group in the second preliminary run and was eliminated.

25 runners started for the 200 m competition, there were seven preliminary runs, from each of which three athletes advanced. The report reports the following about the preliminary runs: “It is strictly according to the program, although 15 reports are not fulfilled.
