The Irish Free State took part in the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles with a delegation of 16 athletes (14 men and 2 women) in ten competitions in three competitions.
The Irish athletes won two gold medals in track and field: Pat O'Callaghan was Olympic champion in hammer throw , while Bob Tisdall took first place in the 400m hurdles. O'Callaghan also acted as the standard bearer at the opening ceremony.
