Milestone (Wimmelburg)

Prussian quarter milestone Wimmelburg

The milestone of Wimmelburg is a small monument in the Verbandsgemeinde Mansfelder Grund-Helbra in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

Wimmelburg possessed four milestones due to its extension along today's state road 151 (formerly federal road 80 ) . The easternmost one, a half-mile stone near the city limits to Lutherstadt Eisleben, has not been preserved, the second to the west is a quarter mile stone at the village width, further west there is a full- mile obelisk in the Wimmelburger Hölzchen and a quarter-mile stone at the birch sheep farm . They all belong to the Langenbogen - Nordhausen section of the Prussian State Office Berlin - Kassel, which was built between 1824 and 1826 .

The quarter milestone from 1826 in the typical shape of the small bell bears the usual inscription 1/4 mile and is thus 26.75 miles from Berlin, which corresponds to a little more than 201 kilometers. Today it stands behind a guardrail on a pavement platform, secured behind it.

The stone - almost 70 centimeters high by foot - is under monument protection and is registered in the monument register with the number 094 16115. There is a metal bolt at the top of the bell that was part of the leveling measures that were taken here. The stone, like the milestone at Höhnstedt , is also a monument to surveying. L / R was chiseled on the top . In 2006 the renovation of the stone was reported, since the inscription is clearly legible again.
