In 2008, Togo took part in the Summer Olympics for the eighth time. For the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing the named Comité National Olympique Togolais four athletes. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was Benjamin Boukpeti as the country's most successful athlete at the 2004 Summer Olympics . Benjamin Boukpeti won the first Olympic medal for Togo in the kayak single slalom in Beijing.
