As a result of the doping controls at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the follow-up test in 2016 and 2017, several participants were convicted of doping. These include the following Ukrainian medalists:

  • After Ljudmyla Blonska won the silver medal in the heptathlon and also qualified for the final in the long jump, it was announced on August 22, 2008 that she had tested positive for an anabolic steroid. She was then disqualified, her results annulled and her silver medal was stripped of her.
  • In August 2016, the IOC announced that weightlifter Olha Korobka had been convicted of doping. At the 2008 Olympics, she had won the silver medal in the over 75 kg class. Because of the positive doping test, this medal was withdrawn from her.
  • Weightlifter Natalija Dawydowa won the bronze medal in the 69 kg class. In September 2016 the IMF announced that it had tested positive for the anabolic steroid dehydrochloromethyltestosterone . As a result, she was retroactively disqualified and deprived of the bronze medal.
  • On November 17, 2016, the IOC announced the names of a total of 16 athletes who doped at the 2008 Olympic Games. Among them is the pole vaulter Denys Yurchenko , who won the bronze medal at the games. He was tested positive for dehydrochloromethyltestosterone, then subsequently disqualified and the bronze medal was revoked.
  • On March 1, 2017, the IOC announced that Viktoria Tereshchuk had failed the post-doping test. The anabolic drug dehydrochloromethyltestosterone was detected in her blood . She was then disqualified and the bronze medal that she won in the modern pentathlon was stripped of her.
  • In April 2017, three more doping cases were announced and among them was the wrestler Wassyl Fedoryschyn , who won the silver medal in freestyle wrestling at the 2008 Olympic Games in the class up to 60 kg. He was subsequently disqualified and the silver medal withdrawn from him.

The athlete Olena Antonowa was able to benefit from the positive doping test of the Cuban Yarelys Barrios . While Antonova won the bronze medal at the Olympics, Barrios took second place. In the follow-up test in 2016, Barrios tested positive for acetazolamide , then disqualified and the silver medal was stripped of her. Meanwhile, the silver medal was awarded to Antonova.
