Aleksandra Anna Socha (Szelągowski) (born March 30, 1982 in Pabianice ) is a Polish fencer who was previously a military world champion, two-time European champion and six-time Polish champion and took part in four Olympic Games . Your weapon is the saber .
Athletic career
Ola , Aleksandra Socha is the daughter of the foil fencer Bronisława Piech-Socha and took her first fencing lessons at the age of 11. She also began with the foil, but then happened to come across the saber before it was accepted into the Olympic program. At 15, she went to a sports school in Warsaw and then to the Academia Wychowania Fizycznego Józefa Piłsudskiego w Warszawie (AWF Warszawa) sports university . In 2000 and 2003 she won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championship and at the World Championship in Havana .
Her best individual performance was winning the 2004 world championships in Copenhagen . In 2012 and 2013 she won the bronze medal. With the team Bogna Jóźwiak , Matylda Ostojska , and Irena Więckowska , Socha won the gold medal at the 2008 European Championships in Kiev . In 2001 she was third with the Polish saber team, and second in 2006 and 2011. Socha became Polish national champion with the saber in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2010 and 2015.
Socha has participated in four Olympic Games ( Athens 2004 , Beijing 2008 , London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 ), where she came in 11th, 18th, 13th and 18th in the singles. With the team, she came in sixth place in 2008 and 2016.
In 2017/2018 she was 122nd in the world rankings, her best placements were third (2005), fourth (2003) and fifth (2010).

Professional career
Socha has degrees as a fencing and fitness trainer . She has been a soldier in the Polish Army since 2006 and is currently serving as a corporal in the training center for communication and IT in Zegrze . In the election of the best athlete in the army, she came in third place in 2011.
She is married to the American Bradley Shelton, whom she met at the 2016 Olympics. They have been parents to a son since 2017.
