Gymnastics at the Olympic Games

The gymnastics is one of the oldest Olympic sports and is one of the four, the Olympic all games was represented. The sport consists of the three disciplines of gymnastics (also called artistic gymnastics , apparatus gymnastics or apparatus gymnastics ), rhythmic sports gymnastics and trampoline gymnastics . Artistic gymnastics has been part of the Olympic program since Athens in 1896 . Rhythmic gymnastics followed in Los Angeles in 1984 and trampoline gymnastics in Sydney in 2000 . Rhythmic gymnastics is one of the three disciplines in the games in which only competitions for women are held.

Gymnastics

There are 14 gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games, 8 for men and 6 for women. In artistic gymnastics, the Olympic program varied greatly in Berlin until 1936 . In the games before 1936 there were e.g. B. rope hanging and club swinging. Today's competitions prevailed in Berlin.

Overview of women's competitions

When women first competed in apparatus gymnastics in 1928 , there was only one eight-fight team competition. Today's disciplines were introduced in Helsinki in 1952.

Rhythmic sports gymnastics

There is an individual and a team competition in rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympic Games. At first only the individual competition was in the program. Then in 1996 Atlanta joined the team competition.
