Karate will be the third Asian martial art to be included in the Olympic program. On August 3, 2016, the IOC decided that karate would be part of the gamesat the Tokyo 2020 Games. The two disciplines Kata and Kumite are held. In 2018 karate was already part of the Summer Youth Olympic Games .

Karate is no longer planned for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 .

Competitions

There will be 12 competitions in Karate at the Olympic Games - 6 for men and 6 for women.
