Andrij Wynokurow , also Andrii or Andrij Vynokurov ( Ukrainian Андрій Винокуров ; born August 14, 1982 in Kharkiv , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian cyclist. He is the dominant athlete in his country in the short-term disciplines on the track in the 2010s.
Athletic career
In 2000 Andrij Wynokurow won two medals at the Junior World Track Championships: a silver one in the 1000 meter time trial and a bronze one in the sprint . In 2001 he won the title of U23 European Champion in Sprint and Keirin and in 2004 in Keirin. In 2005 and 2006 he won the Keirin competitions in the races of the Track Cycling World Cup in Moscow . In 2008 Wynokurow started at the Olympic Games in Beijing , but retired in the Keirin in the hope run after the first round.
In the following years Wynokurow could not build on his previous achievements. In 2015 he became three-time Ukrainian champion in sprint, 1000-meter time trial and team sprint . In 2016 he was runner-up in the European Keirin and finished third in the sprint. At the second run of the Track Cycling World Cup in Apeldoorn , he won the gold medal in the keirin and the silver medal in the sprint, after winning bronze in the keirin in the first run in Glasgow .
