Oleh Lykov

Oleh Wiktorowytsch Lykow ( Ukrainian Олег Вікторович Ликов ; born August 1, 1973 in Dnipropetrovsk ) is a former Ukrainian rower . He won an Olympic bronze medal and at world championships one silver and one bronze.

Athletic career

The 2.02 m tall Oleh Lykow competed at the Junior World Championships in 1991 for the Soviet Union and took tenth place in a two-man with helmsman . From 1993 he rowed eighth in the Ukrainian and finished eighth at the 1993 and 1995 World Championships . In 1994 the eighth reached the A-final, but was taken out of the ranking. In 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta Lykov finished tenth and last place with the Ukrainian eighth.

1997 Lykow switched to the double fours . The Ukrainian four-four with Lykow, Oleksandr Martschenko , Leonid Schaposchnykow and Olexander Saskalko won the bronze medal behind the Italians and Germans at the 1997 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette. In 1998 the Ukrainian quadruple won three medals in the Rowing World Cup . At the World Championships in Cologne , the Ukrainians won the B final and finished seventh. A year later at the World Championships in St. Catharines , the Ukrainians rowed into the final via the repechage. There the Germans won with a three-second lead over Lykow, Martschenko, Schaposchnykow and Saskalko. The four Ukrainians also reached the A-final at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and finished in sixth place.

In 2001 the Ukrainian double foursome was replaced. Hennadij Sachartschenko , Kostjantyn Saizew , Oleh Lykow and Leonid Schaposchnykow took fourth place at the World Championships in Lucerne , two seconds behind the third-placed Italians. In 2002 Kostjantyn Saizew, Serhiy Bilouschtschenko , Oleh Lykow and Leonid Schaposchnykow also reached fourth place and as in the previous year, the gap to the third-placed Italians was about two seconds. In 2003 the Ukrainian quadruple with Dmytro Prokopenko , Oleh Lykow, Leonid Schaposchnykow and Serhij Hryn took 13th place at the World Championships in Milan . The following year, the Ukrainian quadruple competed at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with Hryn, Bilouschtschenko, Lykow and Schaposchnykow. After a second place in the preliminary run behind the Czech boat and a third place in the semi-finals behind the Poles and the Germans, the Ukrainians reached third place in the final, two seconds behind the Russians and 1.4 seconds behind the Czechs.

In 2005, the Ukrainian double scull reached the A final in all three regattas of the Rowing World Cup . At the World Championships in Gifu , Shaposchnykow, Bilouschtschenko, Lykow and Hryn took fourth place in the B final and thus tenth place in the overall standings. After a year break, Lykow returned in 2007 in a double scull. At the World Championships in Munich , he rowed with Hennadij Sachartschenko in the D final. Three weeks after the World Championships, the 2007 European Championships were held in Poznan . The Ukrainians competed with Volodymyr Pawlowskyj , Bilouschtschenko, Lykow and Hryn and finished fourth, one second behind the third-placed Belarusians. Hryn, Pavlovskyj, Lykow and Bilouschtschenko also made up the double foursome, which finished eighth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. A month after the Olympic Games, the four Ukrainians won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Athens in 2008 .

In 2009 Oleh Lykow competed at the World Championships in Poznan in two with a helmsman, only the Ukrainians missed the A-final. At the 2010 European Championships in Montemor , Lykov rowed eighth in the Ukrainian and won the bronze medal. At the 2010 World Championships in New Zealand in November 2010, the Ukrainian eighth finished tenth and penultimate place. In 2011, the eighth finished seventh at the World Championships in Bled . At the European Championships in Plovdiv , the Ukrainians won the bronze medal behind the Poles and the Czechs. The following year, the Ukrainian eighth finished eighth at the Olympic Regatta in Eton . At the European Championships in Varese Lykow rowed together with Serhiy Tschykanow on the ninth place in the two without a helmsman. The two also competed together at the 2013 European Championships and finished eighth. After a year break, Lykow returned in 2015 and finished seventh with the eighth place at the European Championships in Poznan . At the 2015 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette, he finished 24th in a pair with Tschykanow.
