Roald Reinecke

Roald Reinecke (born November 6, 1940 in Leipzig ; † November 18, 2014 ) was a German violinist . For almost 40 years he was first concertmaster of the second violins of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra . He was also the first violinist of the Mendelssohn Quartet .

Life

Reinecke came from a family of teachers and officials from Leipzig. Reinecke received his first violin lessons at the age of ten from Clemens Mieth . After graduating from the Helmholtz High School in 1959, he studied with Klaus Hertel at the State University of Music in Leipzig from 1959 to 1964 .

In 1963/64 he was also engaged at the State Symphony Orchestra in Halle . In 1964 he became 2nd violinist and in 1966 1st violinist of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra . From 1968 he held the position of 1st concertmaster of the 2nd violins. After membership ended in 2005, he worked as a temp in the orchestra until 2006. In 1992/93 he was appointed to the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra .

He was also the first violinist of the Mendelssohn Quartet (or the Reinecke Quartet ), which he formed together with Gunar Kaltofen , Eberhard Freiberger and Günther Stephan . With his quartet he won two international competitions. The string quartet won the silver medal in Geneva in 1974 and the 2nd prize in Rome in 1975. Since 1980 he has directed the Leipzig Chamber Soloists , who are dedicated to baroque music .

Reinecke lived in the Kohren district of Walditz .
