Ismajil Sillach Machmed ( Ukrainian Ісмаїл Сіллах Махмед ; born February 9, 1985 in Zaporizhia , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian boxer.

Amateur career

The son of a Ukrainian and a West African from Sierra Leone began boxing at the age of seven and won 302 of 318 fights. The multiple national champion with impressive clout won the silver medal in featherweight at the European Cadet Championships in Athens in 2000 . He was only defeated in the final against the Romanian Ionuț Gheorghe . In the following year he won the welterweight championship in Liverpool by knocking out the Russian Dmitri Tschudinow in the final . He also won the Cadet World Championships in Baku that same year , defeating Russia's Artur Beterbijew and Elçin Əlizadə from Azerbaijan, among others .

2005 followed the second place in the middleweight division at the world championships in Mianyang . With premature victories against Nabil Kassel from Algeria, Donatas Bondorovas from Lithuania and Mamadou Diambang from France, as well as a points win with 28:22 against Mohamed Hikal from Egypt, he made it to the final, where he was defeated by the Russian Matwei Korobow .

In 2006 he started in the light heavyweight division at the European Championships in Plovdiv . With premature victories against Dawit Ziklauri from Georgia, Andrej Miruk from Belarus, Imre Szellő from Hungary and Constantin Bejenaru from Romania, he made it to the final, where he lost this time to Artur Beterbijew and thus won the silver medal.

He had one last significant success in the European Olympic qualification in Pescara , Italy , where he competed in the light heavyweight division against Elnur Qədirov from Azerbaijan (knockout), Igor Conobeew from Moldova (34:13), Robert Woge from Germany (25: 7) , Bahram Muzaffer from Turkey (knockout) and Ramasan Magomedow from Belarus ( walkover ) prevailed and won the tournament.

However , he was not allowed to participate in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing because he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs during a doping control and was subsequently banned from competition for two years.

He had other appearances at the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Santiago de Cuba (quarter-final defeat against Andy Lee 19:21), the Junior European Championships in Warsaw in 2003 (quarter-final loss against Yegor Mechonzew ) and the 2007 World Championships in Chicago (loss in the preliminary round against Christopher Downs with 25:27).

  • May 2006: 1st place in the light heavyweight division at the Ahmet Cömert tournament in Turkey, u. a. Victories against Mehdi Ghorbani and Bahram Muzaffer
  • April 2007: 1st place in the light heavyweight division at the Klichko Brothers tournament in Ukraine, final victory against Abbos Atoyev
  • July 2007: 1st place in the light heavyweight division at the Makar Mazay tournament in Ukraine

Professional career

For his professional career he emigrated to the USA and won his first fight on July 18, 2008 in Nevada by knockout in the first round. He was also able to end his next ten fights victorious, nine of them prematurely. On April 3, 2010, he won the NABF North American light heavyweight championship in Las Vegas , with a knockout victory in the second round against Daniel Judah, brother of multiple world boxing champion Zab Judah . He defended the title on March 4, 2011 unanimously on points against the undefeated Cuban Yordanis Despaigne .

In his second title defense on April 27, 2012 against the undefeated Russian Denis Grachew, he had his opponent on the ground in the third round, but surprisingly lost the fight in the eighth round by dropping out of the referee (technical knockout) after he himself fell to the ground from several heavy hits.

On November 30, 2013, he boxed in Canada for the WBO light heavyweight championship, but lost in the second round by knockout against the title holder Sergei Kowaljow .
