Radoslav Velikov
Radoslaw Marinow Velikow (also written Radoslav Marinov Velikov , Bulgarian Радослав Маринов Великов ; born September 2, 1983 in Kutsina, Veliko Tarnowo Province ) is a Bulgarian wrestler . He became the 2006 free style bantamweight world champion .
Career
Radoslaw Welikow started wrestling in 1996 as a teenager. He concentrates on the free style. Since 1999 he has been a member of the Bulgarian national wrestling team in the junior division and since 2004 also in the senior division. He is a member of Levski Sofia and is or was trained by Iwan Tsonow and Simeon Schterew . At 1.59 meters tall, it usually weighs a little over 60 kg. At the international championships he always trains in bantamweight , which is the weight class up to 55 kg body weight. He is also well known in German wrestling circles, because he has been wrestling for 1. Luckenwalder SC in the German Bundesliga for several years .
In 1999 he took part for the first time in an international championship, the Junior European Championship (cadets = age group up to the age of 16). He finished 14th in the weight class up to 42 kg body weight in Lodz . Even with his other starts at international championships in the junior area, he was unable to win a medal. His best results were a 5th place at the Junior European Championship 2000 in Bratislava and a 6th place at the Junior World Championship in Tashkent .
In 2004 he qualified for the Bulgarian team for the Olympic Games in Athens. At a qualifying tournament for these games in Sofia , he finished 4th in bantamweight. This place was sufficient for the right to start at the Olympic Games in Athens . There he came in bantamweight but only to one victory over Shaun Williams from South Africa . He lost his second fight against the Chinese Li Zhengyu , with which he was eliminated and came in 9th place.
2005 succeeded Radoslaw Welikow both at the European Championships in Varna and at the World Championships in Budapest in bantamweight each to occupy the 2nd place. He celebrated u. a. Victories over such renowned wrestlers as Bessarion Gotschaschwili from Georgia , Ghenadi Tulbea , Moldova (at the world championship) and others. Named Abdullaev from Azerbaijan . He lost the final bouts against Genadi Tulbea (at the European championship) and against Dilschod Mansurow from Uzbekistan (at the world championship).
In 2006 he was only at the start of the World Championships in Guangzhou . With victories over Qiu Yi, China , O Song Nam, North Korea , Atscham Achilow , Uzbekistan, Samuel Henson , United States and Bessik Kuduchow , Russia , he managed to become world champion in bantamweight.
In 2007 he was no longer so successful, but at least won an EM bronze medal at the European Bantamweight Championships in Sofia . He lost it in his first fight against Bessik Kuduchow , who managed to take revenge for the defeat against him at the 2006 World Cup. At the world championship this year in Baku Radoslaw Welikow won his first fight against Marcel Ewald from Germany , but retired after a defeat in his second fight against Dilschod Mansurow and only came in 13th place.
In the 2008 Olympic year he missed out on a 9th place at the European Championships in Tampere , where he was eliminated from the Olympic qualification after a defeat against Mihran Jaburjan , Armenia , after the 2nd fight. He then fought for this, however, by first place in an Olympic qualification tournament, in which he won ahead of Kim Hyo-sub , South Korea and Namig Sewdimow . In Beijing he lost the bantamweight in his first fight against Henry Cejudo from the United States, but won a bronze medal with victories over his old rivals Bessarion Gotschaschwili and Namig Sewdimow .
In 2009 and 2010 Radoslaw Velikow also won medals at the European Championships . In 2009 he was third winner in Vilnius in bantamweight after a loss to Nariman Israpilow , Russia and victories over Alexandru Chirtoacă, Romania and Mihran Jaburjan and in 2010 he came in Baku in bantamweight after victories over Yuri Ledonov, Ukraine, Vitas Shumakov, Lithuania and Viktor Lebedev , Russia and a defeat against Machmud Magomedow, Azerbaijan even took 2nd place. At the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark he came in 12th place and at the 2010 World Championships in Moscow he reached 7th place.
Radoslaw Velikow Marinow had no success at the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund . He was defeated there in the qualification against Mihran Jaburjan (1: 2 rounds, 4: 5 points), but still came in 11th place due to this good point relationship. He was much more successful at the World Cup in Istanbul , because he fought his way to the final with victories over Andres Quispe Fajardo, Chile , Wlasislaw Andrejew, Belarus, Hassan Rahimi, Iran, Wladimer Kintschegaschwili , Georgia and Nicholas Simmons, USA, in which, however, he lost to Viktor Lebedev from Russia.
In 2012 Radoslaw Velikow won another medal at the European Championships in Belgrade, behind Jamal Otarsultanov from Russia and Bessarion Gotschaschwili from Georgen. But then he just missed one at the Olympic Games in London . There he came to a victory over Nikolai Nojew, Tajikistan , then lost to Wladimer Chintschegaschwili , won over Ibrahim Farag Abdelhaldim Mohamed from Egypt and Amit Kumar from India , but lost the decisive battle for a bronze medal against Shinichi Yumoto from Japan .
