Jamal Sultanowitsch Otarsultanow ( Russian Джамал Султанович Отарсултанов ; * April 14, 1987 ) is a Russian freestyle wrestler . In 2008, 2011 and 2012 he was European champion and 2012 Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling in the bantamweight division .
Career
Jamal Otarsultanov is of Chechen origin. He started wrestling in 1996 and is now a member of the central sports club of the Russian army CSKA Moscow . He was or is trained by Amandi Almadiejewitsch Misultanow and Anatoli Kazbijewitsch Margijew. He works exclusively in free style. At the moment, wrestling is also his profession. To do this he wrestles u. a. also for Gaz Mazandaran in the Iranian professional league.
He was able to achieve his first international success in 2003. This year he became Junior European Champion (Cadets) in Skoplje in the weight class up to 46 kg body weight ahead of Yuri Balanjuk from Ukraine and Alachwerdi Valiev from Azerbaijan .
At the age of 18 he took 3rd place in the Russian bantamweight championship for seniors behind Selimchan Kuchajew and Asir Abdullajew in 2005. This year he also achieved excellent results in several international tournaments. In 2006 he won the famous wrestling tournament of the Russian Wrestling Association, the "Iwan-Yarigin" Memorial in Krasnoyarsk , in bantamweight ahead of Sukhrab Hiziyev, Russia, Adcham Achilow from Uzbekistan and Besik Kuduchow from Russia . He was then used at the European Senior Championships in Moscow . There he won over Alexander Stojanow from Macedonia and Bessarion Gotschaschwili from Georgia , but lost in the semifinals against Oleksandr Sacharuk from Ukraine . In the fight for a European Championship bronze medal , he won over Ghenadi Tulbea from Moldova . In 2006 he also started at the Junior World Championships in Guatemala City , where he won the world title ahead of Henry Cejudo , USA , Nurlan Turabek Ulu, Kyrgyzstan and Swetoslaw Neychew , Bulgaria .
In 2007 Jamal Otarsultanow was again Junior World Champion in bantamweight in Beijing . On the way to this title he defeated Jang Kwan-ho, South Korea , Tsuyoshi Aoki, Japan , Aref Alizadeh, Iran , Vladimir Dubovoi, Ukraine and Sezer Akgül , Turkey . He was not used at the international senior championships this year.
In 2008, as in 2007, he took second place at the "Ivan Yarigin" memorial in Krasnoyarsk in the bantamweight category behind Besik Kuduchow . A preliminary decision had already been made as to who would represent Russia at the Olympic Games in Beijing this year in this weight class, namely Kuduchow. Jamal Otarsultanov was used at the European Championships in Tampere in 2008 , where he won his first international title in the bantamweight category with victories over Jatinder Rakhra, Great Britain , Francisco Javier Sanchez Parra, Spain , Mihran Jaburjan , Armenia and Ryswan Hajyjeu , Belarus . In November 2008 he defeated the so-called CSKA Cup in Moscow, a team tournament, Abbas Dabbaghi Suraki from Iran and Kenichi Yumoto from Japan.
Since this success, Jamal Otarsultanov was able to assert himself in the top Russian bantamweight division, but failed in the most important competitions, such as the Russian championship or the "Ivan Yarigin" memorial to Nariman Israpilov or Viktor Lebedev and therefore came in 2009 and in 2010 no more appearances at the international championships.
In 2011 in Dortmund and 2012 in Belgrade Jamal Otarsultanov was European bantamweight champion. In the final battles he defeated it Wladimer Khinchegashvili and Bessarion Gotschashvili , both from Georgia. After winning the European title in 2012, he was also the Russian champion before Viktor Lebedev . He was then employed at the Olympic Games in London, where she won with victories over Naatale Sem Shilimela, Namibia, Yang Kong-il , North Korea, Daulet Nijasbekow, Kazakhstan and vladimer khinchegashvili, Georgia, the gold medal .
After his Olympic victory, he took a break initially. He also did not compete in the 2013 Russian Championship. It was not until December 2013 that he started at the "Moscow Lights" tournament, actually a team tournament in which a list of winners in the individual weight classes is drawn up based on the fight results and was the best featherweight wrestler together with his compatriot Timur Pesterew.
In January 2014 Jamal Otarsultanov started at the renowned "Ivan Yarigin" Memorial in Krasnoyarsk in the new weight class up to 61 kg and defeated the 2013 featherweight champion Bekchan Goigerejew on points in the final . In the further course of his career he took second place in the 2015 Russian championship in the weight class up to 61 kg behind Alexander Bogomojew and in the same year he was the winner of the World Military Games in Mungyeong, again in the weight class up to 61 kg, ahead of Mehran Akbar Nasirifranchali from Iran.
In 2016 he took 3rd place at the Russian championship in the weight class up to 57 kg behind Viktor Lebedew and Alexander Bogomojew. He could not qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this year. After winning the "Dan-Kolow" & "Nikola-Petrow" Memorial 2017 in Russe in the weight class up to 61 kg, he ended his career.
