Vladimer khinchegashvili ( Georgian ვლადიმერ ხინჩეგაშვილი ; English Vladimer Khinchegashvili * 18th April 1991 in Gori ) is a Georgian wrestler . He was the winner of the silver medal in free style bantamweight at the 2012 London Olympics and won the gold medal in the same style in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. In 2014 he became European champion and 2015 world champion , each in the weight class up to 57 kg body weight.

Career

Vladimir Khintschegashvili started wrestling in Gori in 2000. He is a member of the Dinamo Gori sports club and was coached by his father Arkady Chintschegashvili at the beginning of his career. Nusgar Schireli took over his training since 2001. He only wrestles in free style. He is currently a student and wrestler.

He was already very successful as a junior wrestler. In 2007 he took part in an international championship for the first time and took 3rd place at the Junior World Championship (Cadets) in Warsaw in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight. In 2008 he won two European junior championships. First in Daugavpils in the Cadet age group in the weight class up to 54 kg body weight and then in Košice in the Juniors age group in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight. He also took 3rd place at the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Istanbul in the weight class up to 50 kg in 2008, behind Ahmet Peker , Turkey and Mikhail Ivanov, Russia .

In 2009 he achieved somewhat weaker results at the international junior championships, and in 2010 he had to learn that it is difficult for a young wrestler to be successful in the seniors straight away. He was used by the Georgian Wrestling Association at the European Championships in Baku and lost there after defeating Krasimir Krastanow from the United Kingdom against Viktor Lebedev from Russia, dropped out and only came in 9th place. After that, however, he did again very successfully at the international junior championships in 2010. At the Junior European Championships (Juniors) in Samokow / Bulgaria he came in bantamweight behind Toğrul Əsgərov from Azerbaijan on the 2nd place and at the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Budapest he succeeded in the final of the bantamweight Toğrul Əsgərov and defeated to become junior world champion .

The year 2011 began for Vladimir Khinchegashvili with a victory at the international tournament in Istanbul (Yasar Dogu Memorial), where he defeated former world champion Radoslaw Velikow from Bulgaria in the final. He also wrestled very successfully at the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund and won bantamweight victories over Florian Rexha from Albania , Urs Wild from Switzerland and defending champion Machmud Magomedow from Azerbaijan. In the final, however, he lost quite clearly (0: 2 rounds and 4:10 points) against Jamal Otarsultanov from Russia and became vice-European champion. In the same year he was also Junior European Champion and Junior World Champion in Zrenjanin and Bucharest . At the Senior World Championships in Istanbul he lost after winning three fights against Radoslaw Velikow from Bulgaria and in the consolation round against Hassan Rahimi from Iran and came in 7th.

In April 2012, Vladimir Chintschegashvili managed to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in London by winning a tournament in Sofia . In London he was in very good shape and defeated Ibrahim Farag Abdelhaldin Mohamed from Egypt , Radoslaw Welikow, Amir Kumar Amit Kumar from India and Shin'ichi Yumoto from Japan . He was in the final against Jamal Otarsultanov from Russia, against whom he lost on points. But winning the Olympic silver medal is the greatest success in his career so far.

In 2013, Vladimir Chintschegashvili moved to the next higher weight class, the featherweight. In this weight class he won a bronze medal in March 2013 at the European Championships in Tbilisi with victories over Alexei Baskalow, Estonia, Hajji Aliev, Azerbaijan, a defeat against Opan Sat , Russia and a win over Münir Recep Aktas, Turkey. He also competed in the featherweight championship in Budapest that year. He won there over Abel Gerald Herrera Pastor from Peru and Lee Seung-chul from South Korea, but lost in his third fight against Enchsaichany Njam-Otschir from Mongolia. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 10th place.

In 2014 he competed in the new weight class up to 57 kg at the European Championships in Vantaa / Finland. He was in excellent form there and secured the European title for the first time with victories over Georgi Wangelow, Bulgaria, Zohair El Quarragqe , France, Rustam Ampar , Russia and Ghenadie Tulbea , Monaco. He was also in excellent shape at this year's World Cup in Tashkent. He won there in the same weight class over Andres Quispe Fayardo from Chile, Achmedrabi Gwarsatilow from Azerbaijan, Wladislaw Andrejew from Belarus and Bechbayar Erdenebat from Mongolia. He was in the final, in which he met the North Korean Yang Kyong-il and against whom he lost just 3: 5 points. He became vice world champion.

At the World Championships in Las Vegas in September 2015, Vladimir Chintschegashvili finally deservedly won the world title. He also defeated Salvatore Mannino from Italy, Georgi Wangelow from Bulgaria, Artas Sanaa from Kazakhstan, Bechbayar Erdenebat and Hassan Rahimi from Iran.

At the 2016 European Championships in Riga, he started in the weight class up to 61 kg. He found his way in this weight class straight away and won the title with victories over Jasin Redjalari, Macedonia, Volodimir Franguljan, Armenia, Haji Aliyev, Azerbaijan and Georgi Kalijew, Belarus. At the Olympic Games this year in Rio de Janeiro, he went back to the weight class up to 57 kg. He was also unbeatable in Rio and became Olympic champion with victories over Nurislam Sanajew, Kazakhstan, Haji Aliyev, Vladimir Dubow, Bulgaria and Rei Higuchi, Japan.

In 2017 he finally switched to the weight class up to 61 kg. In May 2017 he was again European champion in this weight class in Novi Sad. In the final he came thereby to a victory over Akhmed Tschakijew, Russia. At the World Cup this year in Paris he lost after winning two fights against Gadschimurad Raschidow from Russia, but was then able to secure a bronze medal in the consolation round with victories over Logan Stieber from the United States and Cengizhan Erdoğan from Turkey.

In 2018 and 2019, Vladimir Khintschegashvili was not quite as successful in the weight class up to 65 kg as in previous years in the lower weight classes.
