Machmud Idrissowitsch Magomedow ( Russian Махмуд Идрисович Магомедов , Azerbaijani Mahmud Məhəmmədov ; born August 28, 1986 in Chassavyurt , Dagestani ASSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian or Azerbaijani wrestler . He became the 2010 European bantamweight free style champion .

Career

Machmud Magomedow was born in Dagestan and began wrestling as a teenager in Khassavyurt in 1995. He was also a member of the sports club "Umakhanov" Khasavyurt and trained by Abdurachmanow Mirsajew. He only works in free style. As a junior, starting for Russia , he was European junior champion in 2003 and 2006 in the age groups "Cadets" and "Juniors". In the period that followed, however , he was unable to assert himself in Russia due to the extraordinarily strong competition, including Besik Kuduchow , Jamal Otarsultanow and Nariman Israpilow . For this reason he changed his citizenship in the summer of 2009 and started working for Azerbaijan since then . There he belongs to the Ataspor Baku sports club and is trained by Gaji Raschidow. At a height of 1.67 meters he starts in the bantam weight, the weight class up to 55 kg body weight. At the Fila-Gala-Grand-Prix in Baku 2009 he started for Azerbaijan for the first time.

2010 Machmud Magomedow was used at the European Championships in Baku by the Azerbaijani Wrestling Association for the first time at an international championship. He was able to meet all expectations there and immediately became European champion with victories over Marcel Ewald from Germany , Alexandru Chirtoacă from Moldova , Andre Dukow , Romania and Radoslaw Welikow from Bulgaria . At the World Cup this year, however, he was not used, here started for Azerbaijan Toğrul Əsgərov .

In 2011 Machmud Magomedow wanted to defend his European title in Dortmund . But he did not succeed, because after victories over Hamza Fatah, France , Ahmet Peker, Turkey and Nikolai Aiwasjan , Ukraine, he lost in the semifinals against Vladimer Khinchegashvili from Georgia . He then won the fight for a European Championship bronze medal against Urs Wild from Switzerland .
