Kim Hyo-sub (born September 23, 1980 in Henan , People's Republic of China ) is a South Korean wrestler . He was Asian bantamweight champion in free style in 2009 and is a two-time Olympian.

Career

Kim Hyo-sub started wrestling as a teenager in 1992. He belongs to the Samsung Wrestling Club Seoul and is or was trained by Moon Hu-chae and Jang Soon-park. He concentrates on the free style and wrestles at a height of 1.50 meters in flyweight or bantamweight.

He began his international wrestling career with starts at the Junior World Championships in 1998 in Las Vegas and 1999 in Sydney . He finished both times in 7th place in the weight classes up to 49 kg and 50 kg body weight. From 2000 he starts with the seniors. This year he finished 8th in flyweight at the Asian Championships in Guilin / China . In the next few years he took part in many international championships, but could not win any medals at world championships. At the Asian Games or the Asian Championships, however, he was very successful several times.

In 2004 he won his first medal at an international championship at the Asian Cup in Tehran . He took 3rd place behind Adhamjon Achilov from Uzbekistan and Bajaraagiin Naranbaatar from Mongolia . In 2006 he came back to 3rd place at the Asian Games in Doha . Before him, Dilschod Mansurow from Uzbekistan and Jon Hyun Guk from North Korea placed themselves there . In 2009 he became Asian bantamweight champion in Pattaya and defeated the North Korean Yang Kyong-il on points in the final battle , who a few weeks later became world champion in Herning / Denmark . Finally, he also reached 3rd place at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and thus won a bronze medal behind Dilschod Mansurow and Yang Kyong-il .

The best place that Kim Hyo-sub achieved at world championships was 5th place at the 2006 world championships in Guangzhou , where he won the battle for a bronze medal against Namig Abdullajew from Azerbaijan with 1: 2 rounds and 2: 3 points lost. He also took 5th place at the 2010 World Cup in Moscow . After a defeat in the third fight against Viktor Lebedev from Russia , he defeated the ex-world champion Radoslaw Velikow from Bulgaria with 2: 1 rounds and 10: 3 points, but lost 1: 2 in the fight for a bronze medal against Frank Chamizo Marquez from Cuba Rounds and 4: 8 points.

In 2004 Kim Hyo-sub defeated Bajaraagiin Naranbaatar at the Olympic Games in Athens , but lost to Babak Noursad from Iran and Chikara Tanabe from Japan and came in 6th place. He then competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . He first won over Francisco Javier Sanchez Parra from Spain , but then lost against Namig Sewdimow from Azerbaijan on points (1: 2 rounds, 2: 4 points). Since Sewdimow did not reach the final, Kim Hyo-sub could not continue to fight in the consolation round, but was eliminated and took 9th place.
