Namiq Sevdimov
Namiq Sevdimov (born October 22, 1983 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani wrestler .
Career
Namiq Sevdimov started wrestling in 1993 at the age of 10. He starts exclusively in free style and belongs to the Customs Sport Club Dinamo Baku , where he is trained by Khosrov Jafarov. He is a sports student and, at a height of 1.60 meters, wrestles bantamweight, the weight class that has its weight limit at 55 kg.
At the beginning of his international career he had great success straight away as a junior (Cadets = age group up to the age of 16). He became Junior World Champion in 1999 in Łódź in the weight class up to 46 kg body weight and came a year later, in 2000, at the Junior European Championships in Bratislava behind Kamal Ustarchanow from Russia on the 2nd place.
From 2004 Namiq Sevdimov started at many world and European championships and always achieved good placements, although he should not succeed in winning any medals. His best results that he achieved were a 5th place at the 2005 European Championships in Varna and a 5th place at the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark , both in the bantamweight category.
In 2008 Namiq Sevdimov was able to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing . In Beijing he won the bantamweight over Yang Kyong-il from North Korea and Kim Hyo-sub from South Korea , but lost in the semifinals to Henry Cejudo from the United States and also lost the fight for an Olympic bronze medal against Radoslaw Velikow from Bulgaria . His 5th place is worth all honors.
