Kustaa Pihlajamäki (born April 7, 1902 in Nurmo , † February 10, 1944 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish wrestler and Olympic champion
Career
He came from a wrestling family and had two brothers and a cousin who were also successful wrestlers. The cousin, Hermanni , became Olympic champion like Kustaa , which meant that there was often confusion.
Kustaa became a police officer and started working for the Helsinki Police Sports Club in 1933 . He previously played for the clubs Nurmon Koitto and Helsingin Kisa-Veikot . He wrestled both styles but scored his Olympic victories in free style. From 1924 to 1939 he was among the best in the world. He is considered one of the most successful wrestlers in the world; he was seen as fast, agile, with an irrepressible will to win and a fair sportsman. In September 2005 he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame for his services to wrestling .
