Giorgi Edishashvili
Giorgi Edischeraschwili ( Georgian გიორგი ედიშერაშვილი English Giorgi Edisherashvili , Azerbaijani Georgi Edişeraşvili ; born March 17, 1988 in the Georgian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Georgian wrestler who has competed for Azerbaijan since 2016 . He became the European free style bantamweight champion in 2013, 2017 and 2018 .
Career
Giorgi Edischeraschwili began wrestling as a teenager in 1999. He belonged to a wrestling club in Tbilisi and was trained by Dawid Chursija. He concentrated fully on the free style. At a height of 1.65 meters, he started in the bantam weight, the weight class up to 55 kg body weight. Currently wrestling is also his job.
He made his first start in an international championship at the Junior European Championship (age group Cadets) in 2005 in Tirana. He won the title in the weight class of 50 kg. In the following years he started at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Beijing and the Junior European Championships 2008 in Kosice, but was unable to place in the front field there both times.
Even with the seniors, he did not come to international assignments because he was only number 3 in Georgia in his weight class behind Bessarion Gotschaschwili and Wladimer Kintschegaschwili . In 2012 Bessarion Gotschashvili was convicted of doping and banned until June 27, 2014, and at the end of 2012, Wladimer Khinchegashvili, the silver medalist from London, switched to the featherweight class. This paved the way for Giorgi Edishashvili to the top in Georgia. He already proved this at the Georgian championship in 2012 in December of this year when he became Georgian bantamweight champion. He was then used at the 2013 European Championships in Tbilisi, where he won the European bantamweight title with victories over Yashar Aliyev, Azerbaijan, Zohair El Quarrange, France, Artyom Gebekow , Russia and Vladislav Andreev , Belarus.
He won the silver medal with the Georgian team at the European Nations Cup (November 8-11, 2013) in Moscow. After the doping test carried out there was positive, he was banned for two years and thus also missed the Olympic qualification. He has been racing for Azerbaijan since 2016 and won the gold medal in his weight class up to 57 kg at the European Championships in 2017 and 2018.
