Antônio Pedro de Siqueira Indio da Costa (born October 20, 1970 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian lawyer and politician ( PSD ). In the Brazilian presidential election in 2010 , he was, while still for the Democratas , a candidate for the office of Vice President at the side of the defeated José Serra .

Life

Indio da Costa studied law at the Candido Mendes University and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro .

He is divorced and has a daughter. His nephew Luís Octavio Indio da Costa is chairman of the Banco Cruzeiro do Sul .

Political career

Indio da Costa joined Brazilian politics in 1996 as a member of the liberal PFL . After moving to PTB from 1999 to 2001, he became involved again in the PFL, which in 2007 was renamed the “Democrats” ( Democratas ). From 1997 to 2007 he was elected city councilor (vereador) of the city chamber of Rio de Janeiro three times.

In 2006 he was elected to the Brazilian House of Representatives for the state of Rio de Janeiro (took office in 2007). The high point of his political career for the time being was the nomination for vice presidential candidate in the 2010 presidential election . However, he and José Serra lost in the second ballot to the left-wing candidate Dilma Rousseff, supported by incumbent President Lula da Silva .

At the end of January 2011, Indio da Costa resigned from the House of Representatives because he did not run again in the 2010 election, which was held at the same time as the presidential election. In the course of 2011 he moved from the Democratas to the newly founded Partido Social Democrático (PSD).
