Tõnu Endrekson (born June 11, 1979 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian rower .

Sporting successes

In 2001, Endrekson and Leonid Gulov won the gold medal in the double scull at the U23 world regatta , which since 2005 has had the status of U23 world championships. In the same year he was able to occupy seventh place with the Estonian four- four at the World Championships in Lucerne . The team achieved the same result in 2002 and 2003.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , he rowed again with Leonid Gulov in double sculls and just barely missed an Olympic medal with fourth place.

In 2005 he started together with Gulov, Jüri Jaanson and Andrei Jämsä in the Estonian four-four. They won the world cup race in Eton and the bronze medal at the world championships in Gifu . At the rowing world championships in 2006 the team was able to confirm the result without Jaanson and again won the bronze medal.

In 2007, Endrekson switched to the double scull at the side of the now 41-year-old Jaanson. Together they won the World Cup races in Lucerne and Amsterdam . At the 2007 World Rowing Championships in Munich , they won the bronze medal. Also in 2008 Endrekson started together with Jaanson in a double scull. At the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing in 2008 , the duo won the silver medal behind the Australian boat. Together with Jüri Jaanson, Allar Raja and Andrei Jämsä , Tõnu Endrekson secured the gold medal in the four-four at the European Championships in Athens in 2008 .

After a less than successful season in quadruples in 2009, Endrekson reached fifth place at the 2010 European championships in single , and ninth place at the world championships . At the 2011 European Championships , Jämsä, Raja, Endrekson and Kaspar Taimsoo competed in quadruples and won the silver medal in quadruples behind the Russian boat. In 2012 the boat took fourth place at the Olympic Games in Eton with the same crew . Shortly afterwards, the Estonian crew won the European championship .

In the next two years, Endrekson did not reach a grand finale in the various scull boat classes. It wasn't until 2015 that Jämsä, Raja, Endrekson and Taimsoo competed together again. At the world championships they won the bronze medal behind the Germans and the Australians. With the same line-up, the Estonians won the 2016 European Championships . At the 2016 Olympics , the Estonian double scull won the bronze medal.

In the 2017 season, Endrekson first tried his hand at double sculls with Allar Raja, but the combination was unsuccessful and missed the finals at the European Championships in the Czech Republic. With Raja he then switched to the four-four , which at the end of the season rowed strongly again in the combination of Kaur Kuslap , Allar Raja, Endrekson and Kaspar Taimsoo and won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Florida behind the selections from Lithuania and Great Britain.

Awards

  • In 2004 Endrekson was voted Team of the Year in Estonia together with Leonid Gulov .
  • In 2005, 2006, 2012, 2015 and 2016 he won the election for Team of the Year in Estonia with the Estonian double scull
