Kaspar Taimsoo
Kaspar Taimsoo (born April 30, 1989 in Viljandi ) is an Estonian rower .
Sporting successes
Taimsoo started rowing at the age of seven. His first international competition was the 2004 Junior World Championships in Banyoles , where he and Alo Kuslap finished 14th in a double scull. In 2005 the athlete, who started for the Viljandi Sõudeklubi club , won the bronze medal in single at the Junior World Championships in Brandenburg Beetzsee . In the 2007 World Rowing Championships in Munich , he went along with Allar Raja , Igor Kuzmin and Vladimir Latin in the quadruple sculls at the start. The Estonian team took second place in the B final and thus eighth place in the final ranking. The team started with the same line-up at the European Rowing Championships 2007 in Poznan , where they finished fifth in the A-final. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , they moved into the B final and rowed into ninth place. Together with Vladimir Latin Taimsoo started in double sculls at the European Rowing Championships 2008 in Athens . After being in the lead for a long time, they finally had to admit defeat to the French duo and won the silver medal in front of the Ukrainian athletes.
Since the 2009 season he has been competing with Allar Raja in a double scull. At the World Cup in Munich they reach the A final, where they finished fifth. In Lucerne , the duo was able to improve further and took third place. They were able to fight for this place at the 2009 World Rowing Championships in Poznan. At the European Rowing Championships in 2009 they even managed a start-to-finish victory and Taimsoo was able to celebrate its first international title. At the U23 World Championships in Račice , Taimsoo started in the single, but suffered heat stroke in the run-up and could not finish the race. The following year, Raja and Taimsoo received the silver medal at the European Championships , and at the 2010 World Championships , the two took eighth place. In 2011, the two achieved seventh place at the World Championships . At the European Championships in 2011 , Andrei Jämsä , Allar Raja, Tõnu Endrekson and Kaspar Taimsoo competed in quadruples and won the silver medal in quadruples behind the Russian boat. In 2012 the boat took fourth place at the Olympic Games in Eton with the same crew . Shortly afterwards, the Estonian crew won the European championship . In 2013, Raja and Taimsoo finished seventh in a double scull at the European Championships . At the 2013 World Championships , they finished fifth in the quadruple scull with Kaur Kuslap and Sten-Erik Anderson . In the same line-up, the four Estonians took sixth place at the 2014 European Championships and fifth at the 2014 World Championships . In 2015 Jämsä and Endrekson returned to the Estonian four-four. At the World Championships Jämsä, Raja, Endrekson and Taimsoo won the bronze medal behind the Germans and the Australians. With the same line-up, the Estonians won the 2016 European Championships . At the 2016 Olympics , the Estonian double scull won the bronze medal.
In 2017 Taimsoo continued to row in the Estonian quadruple, which, however, did not really get going at the beginning of the season and missed the finals at the European Championships . At the world championships, however , the combination with Kaur Kuslap , Allar Raja , Tõnu Endrekson and batsman Taimsoo was in shape and won the bronze medal behind Lithuania and Great Britain.
Kaspar Taimsoo set a new world record in kiiking with 7.15 m in 2015 .
Awards
Taimsoo was voted Team of the Year in Estonia in 2009 with the double scull and in 2012, 2015 and 2016 with the double scull .
