Andrei Jämsä (born February 14, 1982 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian rower .

Sporting successes

Jämsä made his first international appearance at the 2003 World Rowing Championships in Milan . Together with Igor Kuzmin he finished ninth in the double scull. Like Kuzmin, he switched to the Estonian four-four in 2004. At the World Cup in Oberschleißheim, the Estonian team won second place. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , however, they missed the A final and finished ninth. In 2005 the entire line-up of the Estonian four-four changed except for Jämsa. Together with Tõnu Endrekson , Jüri Jaanson and Leonid Gulov , he won the World Cups in Eton and Lucerne . At the 2005 World Rowing Championships in Kaizu , the team won the bronze medal. The Estonian team consisting of Tõnu Endrekson, Igor Kuzmin, Allar Raja and Andrei Jämsä was able to fight for this placement at the 2006 World Rowing Championships in Eton. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , Jämsä competed in a single . However, he retired early and finished 17th. At the European Championships in Athens in 2008 he started again in double fours and won the gold medal in this boat class with Tõnu Endrekson, Jüri Jaanson and Allar Raja.

It was not until 2011 that Jämsä again reached a final ranking at international championships. Together with Allar Raja, Tõnu Endrekson and Kaspar Taimsoo , he won the silver medal in the four-four at the European Championships behind the Russian boat . In 2012 the boat took fourth place at the Olympic Games in Eton with the same crew . Shortly afterwards, the Estonian crew won the European championship . In 2013 not at all at the start and in 2014 in a double scull without placing in the final, Jämsä returned to the double scull in 2015. At the World Championships Jämsä, Raja, Endrekson and Taimsoo won the bronze medal behind the Germans and the Australians. With the same line-up, the Estonians won the 2016 European Championships . At the 2016 Olympics , the Estonian double scull won the bronze medal.

Awards

  • In 2005, 2006, 2012, 2015 and 2016, Jämsä was voted Team of the Year in Estonia together with his colleagues in the Estonian four-four .
