Allar Raja (born June 22, 1983 in Sindi , Estonian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Estonian rower .

Sporting successes

Raja had his first international appearance at the Junior World Championships 2000 in Zagreb , where he finished 19th with the Estonian four-four . His first Estonian Championship title he won in 2004 in one . That year he finished eighth in this boat class at the U23 World Championships in Poznan . In 2005 Raja started in a double scull with Silver Sonntak . At the 2005 World Rowing Championships in Kaizu , the duo reached 14th place. The following year Raja moved to the double fours. Together with Igor Kuzmin , Tõnu Endrekson and Andrei Jämsä , he won the bronze medal at the 2006 World Rowing Championships in Eton . At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , the Estonian double- scull took ninth place in the line-up of Kaspar Taimsoo, Vladimir Latin , Igor Kuzmin and Allar Raja. Together with Jüri Jaanson , Tõnu Endrekson and Andrei Jämsä, Raja won the gold medal at the European Rowing Championships in Athens in 2008 .

Since the 2009 season Raja started with Kaspar Taimsoo in double sculls. At the World Cup in Munich they reached the A-final, where they finished fifth. In Lucerne , the duo was able to improve further and took third place. They were able to fight for this place at the 2009 World Rowing Championships in Poznan. At the European Rowing Championships in 2009 they even managed to win a start-to-finish victory. The following year, Raja and Taimsoo received the silver medal at the European Championships , and at the 2010 World Championships , the two took eighth place. In 2011, the two achieved seventh place at the World Championships . At the 2011 European Championships , Jämsä, Raja, Endrekson and Taimsoo competed in quadruples and won the silver medal in quadruples behind the Russian boat. In 2012 the boat took fourth place at the Olympic Games in Eton with the same crew . Shortly afterwards, the Estonian crew won the European championship . In 2013, Raja and Taimsoo finished seventh in a double scull at the European Championships . At the 2013 World Championships , they finished fifth in the quadruple scull with Kaur Kuslap and Sten-Erik Anderson . In the same line-up, the four Estonians took sixth place at the 2014 European Championships and fifth at the 2014 World Championships . In 2015 Jämsä and Endrekson returned to the Estonian four-four. At the World Championships Jämsä, Raja, Endrekson and Taimsoo won the bronze medal behind the Germans and the Australians. With the same line-up, the Estonians won the 2016 European Championships . At the 2016 Olympics , the Estonian double scull won the bronze medal.

In the 2017 season, Raja first tried her hand at double sculls with Tõnu Endrekson, but the combination was unsuccessful and missed the finals at the European Championships in the Czech Republic. Raja was also used in the double fours at the EM, which also missed the final. At the end of the season, the Estonian double- scull rowed strong again in the combination of Kaur Kuslap , Raja, Tõnu Endrekson and Kaspar Taimsoo, however, winning the bronze medal at the World Championships in Florida behind the selections from Lithuania and Great Britain.
