description

Volokolamskaya is located in the far west of Moscow , in the Stadtrajon Mitino, which belongs to the northwestern administrative district of the city, around one kilometer outside the MKAD ring road .

The underground station went into operation on December 26, 2009. Construction had started in the 1990s, but had to be interrupted for economic reasons until it started again in January 2008. At the same time as Wolokolamskaja, the two stations Mjakinino and Mitino were opened, with a new metro bridge being built over the Moskva River between Mjakinino and Wolokolamskaya .

The underground metro station has two entrances in Mitinskaya Street and near the Wolokolamsker Chaussee artery , after which the metro station was named. The tracks of the Moscow- Riga railway line also run near the metro station . There are long-term plans to build a stop for local trains in the area of the Wolokolamskaya metro station in order to create transfer options between the metro and suburban traffic.

architecture

The two entrances to the station are each built into an above-ground vestibule, where the counter halls with access barriers are also located. From there, escalators running up and down lead to the platform. The walls of the ticket hall and the two escalator shafts are clad in black marble, as are the reinforced concrete pillars , which are nine meters apart and visually separate the central platform into three parts. The pillars form two arcade-like rows, between which the unusually high vault of 8.1 meters gives the entire platform hall an extremely spacious, “cathedral-like” impression. The hall is illuminated by lights hidden in large round niches along the vault. The floor cladding is made of gray granite .

Others

Volokolamskaya was also the project name of another Moscow metro station for a long time. The shell was built during the construction of the north-western branch of the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line between the Shchukinskaya and Tushinskaya underground stations in order to connect a planned residential area. The plans were later rejected. On August 27, 2014, the station was opened under the name Spartak .
