Estonia took part in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin with a delegation of 33 athletes. It was the country's last participation as an independent state before participating in the 1992 Olympics . In 1940 the country was occupied by the Soviet Union and the Estonian athletes competed as part of the Soviet team in the years that followed.

For Estonia, a group of physics students took part in an exchange event organized on the occasion of the Olympic Games.

Johannes Kauba , Karl Kullisaar and Johannes Villemson acted as judges for the wrestling competitions. in the boxing competition Peeter Matsov was a judge in various fights.
