Rudolf Svedberg (born August 19, 1910 in Njurunda , † June 24, 1992 in Eskilstuna ) was a Swedish wrestler.

Career

Rudolf Svedberg grew up in central Sweden, played football as a child and teenager and decided to wrestle at the age of 16 because he wanted to emulate the great idols Ivar Johansson and Rudolf Svensson . He belonged to the AIK Sundsvall and later Eskilstuna GAK. In 1934 he first won the Swedish welterweight championship, Greco-Roman. Style, the style he exclusively wrestled. In 1936 he became Olympic champion by defeating German favorite Fritz Schäfer . He won because he scored the stormy attacking shepherd cool and tactically clever. After 1936, however, he could no longer win a fight against Schäfer.

After the end of his active career, he was the Swedish national wrestler coach for years. Olle Anderberg , Gustav Freij , Bertil Antonsson and many others owe much of their great successes to him.
