Anatoli Michailowitsch Bykow ( Russian Анатолий Михайлович Быков ; born August 6, 1953 in Magadan ) is a former Soviet wrestler . He was Olympic champion in 1976 in the Greco-Roman style welterweight .

Career

Anatoly Bykow, started wrestling as a teenager in 1966 in Kazakhstan . After his great talent for this sport was discovered, he was delegated to Dinamo Alma-Ata (today Almaty ) and formed there by coach W. Yermakov into an outstanding wrestler in the Greco-Roman style.

As early as 1970, he took part in the Junior European Championships (Juniors = up to the age of 18) in Huskvarna and took 3rd place in the class up to 65 kg body weight behind Andrzej Supron from Poland and Mikko Huhtala from Finland . In 1971 and 1973 he was then in Tokyo and Miami each junior world champion (Espois = up to the age of 20) in the lightweight.

In 1975 he won the Soviet welterweight championship for the first time in the senior class. He became the successor of such great experts as Viktor Igumenow and Shamil Chisamutdinow . In the same year, Anatoly Bykov's first appearance at an international championship took place at the World Championships in Minsk. He justified the trust placed in him, because he immediately became world champion in Minsk with five wins.

The very next year he achieved the biggest victory of his career at the Olympic Games in Montreal . He became an Olympic welterweight champion. In Montreal he celebrated a. a. Victories over the top athletes Karl-Heinz Helbing from the FRG , Klaus-Peter Göpfert from the GDR and Vitezslav Macha from the CSSR .

In 1977 Anatoly Bykov was not in the good shape of 1975 and 1976. This was also evident at the World Cup that year in Gothenburg , after he had not been used at the European Championships. In Gothenburg he won a. a. again over Klaus-Peter Göpfert and Janko Schopow from Bulgaria , but lost to Vitezslav Macha and the Hungarian Ferenc Kocsis , who became his main competitor in the next few years.

In 1978 Anatoli Bykow lost in the final of the European Championships in Oslo again against Ferenc Kocsis (wrestler) | Ferenc Kocsis and took 2nd place. In the same year he reached the 2nd place in the welterweight division behind the new man Vyacheslav Mkrtichew and in front of Arif Niftulajew and Vladimir Zemkow at the Soviet championship . At the II. Spartakiad of the USSR in 1979 he came in only 4th place behind Suren Nalbandjan , the guest Czech Vitezslav Macha and Arif Niftulajew. As a result, he was not used in 1979 international championships.

In 1980, however, he managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Moscow . There Anatoly Bykov had to endure seven tough fights. He won it u. a. over his old rivals Vitezslav Macha, Lennart Lundell from Sweden , Mikko Huhtala and Janko Schopow, but lost again in the final against Ferenc Kocsis (wrestler) | Ferenc Kocsis and thus won the silver medal.

After these games Anatoly Bykov resigned as an active wrestler. He completed his training as a sports teacher and now works as a wrestler and fitness trainer.
