He completed a university education as a sports teacher and then worked for many years as a coach of the Soviet national team in the Greco-Roman style. Anatoly Kolessow later devoted himself mainly to association work and also became a member of the Soviet Olympic Committee. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he was head of delegation (Chef de Mission) of the Russian Olympic team. He was also assigned the same task for the 2012 Olympic Games in London .
