Rudolf Vesper (born April 3, 1939 in Niehmen near Oława , Silesia ) is a former German wrestler in the Greco-Roman style.

Athletic career

Rudolf Vesper started for SG Ramsin from 1948 to 1959 and for ASK Vorwärts Rostock from 1959 to 1972 .

At the wrestling world championships in 1963 and 1967 Vesper won the silver medal. At the European Championships in June 1968, he finished fifth.

Four months later, Rudolf Vesper sensationally won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Mexico City . At the European Wrestling Championships in 1970 he was third.

Rudolf Vesper was a nine-time GDR wrestling master and honored master of sports . His competition weight was 78 kg with a height of 1.78 m.

Private career

Rudolf Vesper learned to be a carpenter. He later worked as a sports and vocational school teacher.

Vesper is married and has two sons. Today he lives in Rostock , continues to be active in sports and is involved in wrestling in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
