Josef Herda

Josef Herda (also Jozef Herda ; born April 21, 1910 in Trnava , † October 4, 1985 in Bratislava ) was a Czechoslovakian wrestler.

Career

Josef Herda began in Prague with the rings . In 1930 he joined the police and from that time started for the police sports club SFK “Straze” Prague. Determined he fought his way into the Czechoslovak top class in the Greco-Roman style. He placed in the front field several times at the Czechoslovak Championships.

He made his debut at international championships in 1934 at the European Championships in Rome , where he took a good 6th place. On the return trip from these championships, the Czech national team wrestled against a Bavarian selection in Munich . Josef Herda lost to Wolfgang Ehrl from Munich on points. He presented himself in splendid form at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin . With four wins and a narrow 1: 2 point defeat against the Finnish favorite Lauri Koskela , he won the silver medal.

He was not at the start at other international championships. Josef Herda went to Slovakia in 1942 and has lived in Bratislava ever since. He worked there as a wrestling trainer after the Second World War.
