Imre Harangi

Imre Harangi (born October 16, 1913 in Nyíradony , † February 4, 1979 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian boxer .

Harangi started boxing at Herminamezei AC in Budapest at the age of 16. In the years 1933-1938 he was six times in a row Hungarian champion in lightweight (-61.2 kg). In 1934 he was silver medalist at the European Championships in 1934 and at the Olympic Games in 1936 he won the gold medal with a final victory over Nikolai Stepulov , Estonia . Harangi served in the Air Force during World War II . He was seriously wounded in an emergency landing, so that he could not box again after the war. Instead, he became a youth coach at SE MÁVAG .
