Kazimierz Sylwester Paździor (born March 4, 1935 in Radom , † June 24, 2010 in Wroclaw ) was a Polish boxer . He was an Olympic lightweight in 1960 .

Career

Kazimierz Paździor, whose father Jozef was killed by the Nazis in Buchenwald concentration camp , began boxing as a teenager in 1951 at the Broni Radom sports club . It was not until 1955 that he boxed himself into the top Polish national class. In 1956 he started at the Warsaw Cup , where almost the entire boxer elite from the former Eastern Bloc countries competed . He won the lightweight tournament by winning points over his compatriot Zygmunt Milewski.

In 1957 he was Polish runner-up in the lightweight. He then defeated the top European boxers Horst Herper from the Federal Republic of Germany , Olli Mäki from Finland and the 1956 Olympic champion , Richard McTaggart from England . He was then appointed by the responsible trainer Feliks Stamm to the Polish boxing relay that started at the European Championships in Prague . In Prague, Kazimierz Paździor was extremely well prepared. He won against Anatoli Lagetko from the Soviet Union , Slobodan Vitic from Yugoslavia and John Kidd from Scotland on points and also defeated Olli Mäki on points in the final. This made him the European lightweight champion.

In 1958 Kazimierz Paździor was the first Polish champion in the lightweight. He repeated this success in 1960. He beat Józef Grudzień in the final , who inherited him after 1960 as the top Polish boxer in the lightweight.

In 1959 Kazimierz Paździor started at the European Championships in Lucerne. After beating the Italian Francesco Musso, he lost to Olli Mäki in the round of 16 on points and was eliminated from the competition.

In 1960 he took part in the Olympic Games in Rome . He was in top form at the Olympic boxing tournament. One after another he defeated Karim Taha Abdul from Iraq , Harry Lempio from the all-German team and Salah Shokweir from Egypt on points. In the semifinals he was lucky that the judges awarded him a 3-2 point win in the fight against defending champion Richard McTaggart. Even in the final fight, which brought him the Olympic victory with a victory over Sandro Lopopolo from Italy, the result was not unanimous. It was 4: 1 in favor of Paździor.

Kazimierz Paździor made eleven international matches between 1957 and 1961. He achieved nine victories. He only had to admit defeat to the two German boxers Horst Herper from Düsseldorf and Wolfgang Schmitt from Mainz .

Kazimierz Paździor, who had trained as an electrician, trained as an electrical technician at a Warsaw institute. After finishing his boxing career, he graduated from the Sports University in Warsaw in 1972 to become a boxing trainer. After that he, who had boxed for OWKS Lublin and Legia Warsaw during his playing days , was coach for Zagłębie Lubin and Gwardia Breslau for many years .
