Frederick Grace
Frederick "Fred" Grace (born February 29, 1884 in Edmonton , Middlesex , † July 23, 1964 in Ilford , Essex ) was a British boxer .
Prior to the 1908 Olympic Games in London Grace was considered an outsider, because previously he had not won a single title. The basis for his surprising Olympic victory was the quarter-final fight, in which he defeated the favorite Matt Wells on points. He was able to skip the semifinals with a bye and in the final he also prevailed on points against his compatriot Frederick Spiller .
Thereafter, Grace won the English championship four times between 1909 and 1920. He could n't repeat his Olympic victory in 1912 because boxing was banned in Sweden at the time . In 1920 in Antwerp he lost in the first round against the later Olympic champion Samuel Mosberg .
Grace has worked as a heating engineer for most of her professional life. He died at the age of 80 when he was run over by a car while out for a walk.
