Erich Siebert ( May 7, 1910 , † 1947 ) was a German wrestler .

Life and career

He started wrestling at the age of 10 and became German team champion with ASV Bad Kreuznach at the age of 18 in 1928. He soon joined the police , was transferred there several times and wrestled with Darmstadt , Mainz ( ASV Mainz 1888 ) and Litzmannstadt (the Łódź renamed by the Nazis ). He wrestled in both Greco-Roman and free styles. In his first international assignment at the European Championships in Rome in 1934 , he defeated all four of his opponents, including Edvīns Bietags , Latvia , but had one more missing point than the bid tag, which was favored by a bye, so that, according to the unfortunate rules of the time, he became European champion . Towards the end of the war, Siebert was taken prisoner by the Soviets and died in a camp in 1947.
