In 2002, Estonia took part in the Winter Olympics for the sixth time. 17 athletes were sent to compete in five different disciplines. A gold, a silver and a bronze medal were won in cross-country skiing, placing the country in 17th place in the medal table. The most successful athlete was Andrus Veerpalu , who won two medals.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the former Nordic combined skier Allar Levandi , who did not play at these games.
