Irina Embrich (born Samkowaja, Estonian Zamkovaja / Russian Замковая ; born July 12, 1980 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Estonian sword fencer . She is a multiple medalist at world and European championships.

Sporting successes

Embrich won her first international medal at the World Fencing Championships in Lisbon in 2002 . There, the left-hander was able to fight for the silver medal with the Estonian women's sword team. She also won the silver medal with the Estonian team at the 2003 European Championships in Bourges .

At the Summer Universiade 2005 in Izmir , Embrich won her first medal in an individual competition, behind Olga Aleksejeva and Li Na she achieved the bronze medal. At the World Fencing Championships in Turin in 2006 she was only defeated in the final of the épée fencers of the Hungarian Tímea Nagy with 11 to 15. In 2007 she won the bronze medal in the individual epee competition at both the European Championships in Ghent and the World Championships in St. Petersburg . At the World Cup, Embrich was defeated by the German Britta Heidemann in the semifinals. With the Estonian team, she lost the battle for third place against the German team.

In 2012 she won bronze with the Degen team at the European Championships in Legnano . In 2013 she became the European team champion in Zagreb . In 2015 she won the silver medal with the Degen team at the European Championships in Montreux . In 2016, she became the European team champion in the epee in Toruń .
