Julia Beljajeva (born July 21, 1992 in Tartu ) is an Estonian sword fencer . She has been world and European champion several times.

successes

Julia Beljajeva started fencing in 2002. The right-hander achieved her first international successes at European championships . In 2012 she won the bronze medal with the team in Legnano , and the following year she became European champion with the team in Zagreb . In Budapest , she was also in the same year a 15: 14-Final victory over Anna Siwkowa world champion . In 2014 she won the silver medal with the team in Kazan at the World Cup . She also won silver with the team in 2015 both at the European Championships in Montreux and at the European Games in Baku . At the European Championships in 2016 , she and the team became European champions for the second time. She also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro that year. In the individual, she only reached 29th place, with the team she just missed a medal win. After a narrow 27:26 victory over South Korea in the quarter-finals, a 36:45 defeat followed in the semi-finals against China, the battle for bronze against Russia was lost 31:37. The following year she won her first individual medal at European Championships when she won bronze in Tbilisi . She also won bronze in the individual at the World Championships in Leipzig . She did even better with the team and became world champion for the second time after 2013. She finished the 2018 European Championships in Novi Sad both individually and with the team on the bronze rank.

Beljajeva received numerous honors for her successes in her home country. In 2013 and 2017 she was elected Sportswoman of the Year , and she was also awarded this honor in the team category with the épée national team. In 2014 she was honored as part of the team and also received the Order of the White Star . In her birthplace and hometown of Tartu , she was voted Sportswoman of the Year four times. Beljajeva is married.
