Oxana Ivanovna Yermakova

Oxana Iwanowna Yermakowa ( Russian Оксана Ивановна Ермакова ; born April 16, 1973 in Tallinn , then Estonian SSR ) is a Russian sword fencer .

Life

At the beginning of her career, Oxana Ivanovna Yermakova started for the Soviet Union and then for Estonia . In 1998 she changed her citizenship and has competed for Russia ever since. She is a multiple medalist at Olympic Games, World and European Championships.

Sporting successes

Yermakova won her first international medal at the World Fencing Championships in Budapest in 1991 , where she won the bronze medal in singles and with the Soviet team. In 1993 she won the world title in Essen . She became the first Estonian fencing world champion. With the Estonian epee team she won the bronze medal in The Hague in 1995 . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , she was fifteenth in the individual competition and with the Estonian team she finished fifth. Four years later at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , she won the gold medal with the Russian team. At the European Championships in Moscow in 2002 , she won the bronze medal in the individual competition and the silver medal with the Russian team. At the 2003 World Fencing Championships in Havana , she won the gold medal with the Russian team. In Bourges , she won the 2003 European Championship with the Russian team in the final against her former Estonian teammates. She repeated this success with the Russian team at the 2004 European Championships in Copenhagen . In the individual competition she won the bronze medal. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , she was able to repeat the success of 2000 with the Russian team. In the individual, she took 20th place. Yermakova won her last international medal at the 2005 European Championships in Zalaegerszeg . There she won the silver medal with the Russian team.
