Simona Gherman

Simona Cristina Gherman (* as Simona Cristina Alexandru ; April 12, 1985 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian sword fencer . She is an Olympic champion and two-time world champion.

successes

At the Summer Universiade 2007 in Bangkok , Simona Gherman received silver with the Degen team. At the European Championships in 2008 , 2009 and 2011 , Gherman won with the team as well as at the World Fencing Championships in 2010 and 2011 . In August 2011 she married and has since been listed as Gherman and no longer as Alexandru in the results lists . In 2012 she became individual European champion in Legnano and won silver with the team, only beaten by the Russian team. At the Olympic Games in London , Simona Gherman took sixth place both in the epee singles and with the team.

In 2014 she won bronze in singles at the European Championships in Strasbourg and won with the team. In 2015 she was again European team champion and won silver with the team at the world championships. At the European Championships in 2016 , she won the individual, bronze with the team. At the 2016 Olympic Games , Gherman was Olympic champion with the Romanian epee team, in the individual she came in 19th place.
