Marija Valerjewna Masina ( Russian Мария Валерьевна Мазина ; born April 18, 1964 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian sword fencer .

successes

Marija Masina achieved most of her successes on an international level in team competition. In singles, she won her only medals with two bronze medals at the World Championships in Lyon in 1990 and in Havana in 1992 . She also won bronze with the team in Budapest in 1991 , before becoming world champion with her in Nîmes in 2001 . In 1999 and 2001 Masina secured silver with the team at European championships . She took part in the Olympic Games twice. In 1996 in Atlanta she finished 19th in the individual, with the team she reached the semi-finals after victories over Japan and Germany , which were lost to France . In the battle for bronze, the Russian team prevailed against Hungary with 45:44 . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , she finished the individual competition in eleventh place. With the team, which consisted of Karina Asnawurjan , Oxana Jermakowa and Tatjana Logunowa in addition to Masina , she successively defeated Germany, Hungary and Switzerland in the final and became Olympic champion .

After her active career, she worked as a trainer, including for the Russian women's national degen team.
