Mexico took part in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London with 81 athletes and 7 female athletes.
The shooter Francisco Bustamente acted as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony. He finished 18th in the Olympic rapid-fire pistol shooting .
Medals
The 1948 Summer Games in London were the most successful Olympic Games for Mexico to date with five medals .
- Diving : 19-year-old Joaquín Capilla was fourth in the 3 m artificial diving and won the bronze medal in the 10 m high diving. With a total of 3 medals at the Olympic Games in 1952 and 1956, he later became one of the most successful Mexican Olympians.
- Riding : Mexico achieved a double victory in the individual hunting jumping competition. Humberto Mariles Cortés won ahead of Rubén Uriza . In the team, Mariles Cortés and Uriza won the Nations' Prize with Alberto Valdés . Mariles Cortés also won the bronze medal in the eventing team competition with Raúl Campero and Joaquín Solano.
