Iceland participated in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London with a delegation of 20 athletes (17 men and three women) in 18 competitions in three sports part. None of the athletes managed to win a medal. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the athlete Finnbjörn Þorvaldsson .
