Iceland took part in the 1996 Summer Olympics in the US metropolis of Atlanta with nine athletes, four women and five men, in fifteen competitions in five sports.

Since 1912 it was Iceland's 15th participation in the Summer Olympics .

Flag bearer

Athlete Jón Arnar Magnússon carried the flag of Iceland during the opening ceremony on July 19 at the Centennial Olympic Stadium .

The youngest participant in Iceland was the swimmer Eydís Konráðsdóttir at 18 years and 158 days, the oldest participant was the athlete Vésteinn Hafsteinsson at 35 years and 230 days.
