The Dominican Republic participated in the 1996 Summer Olympics for the ninth time in the Summer Olympics. The team consisted of 16 athletes, twelve of whom were male and four were female. They started in 16 competitions in seven sports and could not win a medal. The youngest participant was the athlete Juana Rosario Arrendel with 17 years and 310 days, the oldest was Blanca Alejo with 34 years and 131 days, who started in table tennis. During the opening ceremony on July 19, 1996, boxer Joan Guzmán carried the flag of the Dominican Republic into the Olympic Stadium.
