Hong Kong took part in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta for the eleventh time in the Summer Olympics. It was the last participation as a British crown colony before Hong Kong was to be returned to the People's Republic of China by Great Britain on January 1, 1997. The team consisted of 23 athletes, of which 14 were male and nine were female. They started in 25 competitions in ten sports. During the opening ceremony on July 19, 1996, athlete Chan Sau Ying carried the Hong Kong flag into the Olympic Stadium.

Medalist

With a gold medal won, the Hong Kong team finished 49th in the medal table . It was the first Olympic victory for Hong Kong as well as the first ever medal win.

The youngest participant was the diver Ng Sui with 15 years and 339 days, the oldest the shooter Cheng Shu Ming with 50 years and 238 days.
