Chan Kong Wah (born August 21, 1961 ) is a table tennis player and trainer from Hong Kong . He took part in the 1996 Olympic Games and played in the German Bundesliga for several years .

Career

Chan Kong Wah won the 1983 Commonwealth Championships in mixed with Hui So Hung and with the team. In 1995 he won gold in the individual and again in the team competition. From 1983 to 2000 he was nominated for six world championships , but never came close to medal ranks.

In 1996 he qualified for participation in the doubles competition at the Atlanta Olympics . Here he failed at the side of Lo Chuen Tsung after victories over Choi Gyong Sop / Li Gun Sang (North Korea) and Michael Hyatt / Stephen Hylton (Jamaica) as well as a defeat against the French Damien Éloi / Jean-Philippe Gatien in the opening act.

Since 1986 Chan Kong Wah has played for several Bundesliga clubs . Since he received a German passport in 1996, he no longer blocked a foreigner place on the team.

In 1987 and 1989 he helped Post SV Mülheim to move up to the Bundesliga. Because of the foreigner regulation in the Bundesliga, he "parked" in the 1987/88 season at the upper division PSV Oberhausen and then returned to Mühlheim. He was also involved in the promotion in 2001 at Würzburger Hofbräu and in 2002 at TTG Weitmar-Munscheid.

After the end of his active career, Chan Kong Wah worked as a table tennis trainer. First he coached the youngsters of Post SV Oberhausen, later he became the national coach of Hong Kong.

Private

Chan Kong Wah is married to table tennis player Mok Ka Sha (Hong Kong, No. 30 in the world rankings in 1989), with whom he has had a child since mid-1990.
